It is a well documented (mainly by my ravelry projects page) that I am in love with Danger Crafts patterns. Since I made my first Olivia monster in 2009, I've been hooked. And I believe everyone should try making monsters just once. So that is why The Wool Dispensary is holding a two month long Danger Crafts Extravaganza KAL!

June and July will be filled with monster/critter/dinosaur knitting. Why two months you ask? Who wouldn't want to prolong all this fun? Also, we know summer gets a bit busy, what with everyone wanting to be outside and take pesky vacations and such. We wanted as many people as possible to knit along. And have a chance to win fabulous prizes!

What fabulous prizes? For every finished monster/critter/dinosaur you will be entered in a drawing to win:

First Prize- The Big Book of Knitted Monsters (donated by Rebecca Danger) and your choice of a skein of The Wool Dispensary yarn.
Second Prize- A Danger Crafts Pattern of your choice and a skein The Wool Dispensary yarn.
Third Prize- A Danger Crafts pattern of your choice and a skein of The Wool Dispensary yarn.

How awesome is that! As always, you are welcome to KAL no matter what yarn you are using, however since this a Wool Dispensary KAL, we encourage the use of our yarn. We are here today to introduce two new colors to the line up of Happily Ever After: a Fairy Tale Collection.

Bad Ass Unicorn in Useful Irradiant, Useful Restorative and TBN merinoFirst up Bad Ass Unicorn. A Berry Purple to raspberry pink depending on the base it's dyed in.

Then Troll Bridge, a reddigh brown with warm orange undertones. It's like fall leaves piled beneath a bridge that could have anything lurking in it.

Monday got away from me before I could blink so to wrap up our lovely April Understory KAL here is a line up of finishers on a Tuesday.

Taschenmaedchen (on ravelry) finished hers in Schoeller+Stahl Merino Mix.

Skyhooked knit hers in Schaefer Yarn Company Lola Superwash, and achieved a lovely pooling effect.

emeemknit did hers in Brown Sheep Prairie Silks and it looks awesome.

Bflo's is Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran, looking nice and tweedy

dukecreeker did about 4 repeats and knit in Paton's Classic Wool.

Shinies has hers knit in The Alpaca Yarn Co. Astral, and it looks like she shortened hers too.

She also took a picture of it on her pup! I am sucker for a good 'knitted thing on dog' picture.

Valkyrie knit one in an unidentified yarn

and last but least, one last one from Girlwithapurl in Berroco's Boboli.

Congratulations to all our FO Knitters! They all look so lovely. I might just contemplate starting another, because I finished mine, right under the wire on April 30th.

We won't be KALing in May. Much like Malabrigo hold the fort on March, Madelinetosh has taken over the needles come May, so look for another KAL in June!

Sidetracked

Instead of working on my Understory cowl, which I had to frog and restart because apparently I can't count. Apparently I had 128 stitches on my needle, I figured that out after knitting all the ribbing. No problem, it's coming with me to Dark Lord Day in Muenster, Indiana and nothing could possibly go wrong when mixing a lace pattern and heavy drinking, right? I was sidetracked by the utterly adorable Basil the Boogie Woogie Dinosaur (the newest Rebecca Danger pattern) or as I am calling mine, Thorfinn the Disco Viking Ship. He still needs legs and I have to go to work, so the leg bits will have to wait until I return home. I guess you can say I have traded in one KAL for another, as she is running a Basil KAL on her blog to better help knitters along with some of the sticky bits of knitting him. I am using some left over bits from the Circus Showgirl's Plumes KAL we ran in January. Useful Irradiant in Flying Fishers and Rêveur have found their way to another life as Thorfinn.

You might be looking at our online shop thinking to yourself, it was just yesterday that I had my eye on that skein of yarn! Where'd everything go? We had a chance to be part of Version 12 and SMALL. Version 12 is an arts festival that will be happening in a Chicago Southside neighborhood called Bridgeport. Included in that is SMALL's People's Macy's. Think etsy writ large. So we pulled some stock to send down there. If you are in the neighborhood during the month of May do check it out. There will be many events under the Version 12 umbrella and I think it's going to be really cool. But have no fear. A shipment of yarn should be arriving at the door this week and by next weekend there will some new yarns and colors to ogle (and hopefully stick into your shopping basket). However I did keep some of the prettiest skeins of Imperial Poison behind in case you still want to get in on our April KAL. Happy Knitting!

I like to start my week by looking back at all that I've accomplished over the weekend. It makes me feel, well accomplished. Since I have not started my Understory Cowl yet I you to drool over the others that have popped up in our Ravelry Group's April KAL thread.

Picture Courtesy of Lauren S.Lauren (LaurenS on Ravelry) made this beauty out of two skeins of Greater Poison (our superwash aran weight yarn) in the color Georgia Building Castles. She modified it by taking out 12 stitches and adding two lace repeats; making it smaller and longer.

Julie (julesbean on Ravelry) finished her Understory as well. Bright and poppy in Imperial Poison in Circus Popcorn. So good I could just eat it!

Each one has turned out gorgeous no matter the color. I am looking forward to casting on (I need to get one more thing off the needles before I start) and I want to see more of what you knit!

April is here, no foolin'

Put a Whale on it Of all the days to post. April Fools day. Well, make no mistake April is here and with all the malabrigo now on your needles (don't deny, I know how many of you roll). We here TWD are gearing up for our April KAL. See?! I even have my yarn wound up. But if I try to swatch on those tooth picks I might be in for a world of trouble. For April we are thinking simple and spring. So Bree's Understory Cowl was a good choice.

And, in the name of fun, Bree has decided to award those who participate in the KAL with free patterns from her Ravelry store.

Stipulations: You must complete the Understory Cowl, upload photos to Ravelry, and post them in this thread by end of day (your time zone) April 30th to qualify. Everyone who submits a completed project to the thread by this time will be given a discount code for one free pattern of your choice from my Ravelry store.

To spice things up, I’ll also be giving away 3 copies of my Hot Child in the City pattern collection. These will be chosen by random from the project submissions at the end of the KAL.

Note: Those participants using Imperial Poison (or other TWD yarns for the project will be entered into the Hot Child giveaway twice - once for completing the Understory Cowl, and once for your support of TWD).
