Never mind the Profanity Sale

Sam has come to embrace her wacky schedule. Monday night has become her Friday night and Thursday her Sunday, so effectively Tuesdays are Saturdays. Now, she usually leaves poor Oose to field Wool Dispensary business on this day and takes off with her friend Molly and two of the coolest kids in the universe. They ride bikes in the park, run around the city and bake crazy things. Then when the kids have quiet time, knit like fiends. This leads to very relaxing, pleasant, productive Tuesdays.

So one day after leaving Molly's house, Sam felt like eating chocolate cake and she went to Alliance Bakery, where they make some of the best cakes and saw a lovely blue buttercream frsted one with delicate fondant cherry blossoms and she knew that this Tuesday was different than all the other Tuesdays. After this Tuesday, life would never be the same. So she had them write 'Happy Motherfucking Tuesday' on the cake because it was such a good goddamned day.

The cake that started it all.

Now that happiness and elation gets passed on to you dear readers and lovers of The Wool Dispensary. From today which is Happy Motherfucking Tuesday until Fuck off and Die Thursday (a term which was coined by Molly- we still don't have the story on it but I am sure there's a reason) use the code HMFT to receive 20% off your entire order! Pass it along to friends, tell the whole world! Make someone's day because it's Tuesday and everyone should have a 'Happy Motherfucking Tuesday'!

The Old Gods and the New

I won't post any spoilers about last night's Game of Thrones episode, in case there are a few late viewers in the audience... other than to say, "WTF?"

My good friend Molly hosts a viewing party every Sunday at her house and every week a group of us assembles to drink, watch the carnage and intrigue unfold, and compare to the story lines to the books. Most of time I am completely rivited; I don't even bother to pick up my knitting. This week was no exception. With only one more episode left, I know my withdrawal period will be long and harsh. When do the season 3 DVDs release?

Since Rob Stark is one of my favorite characters on the show and Arya Stark one of my favorite characters overall, I give you The Wool Dispensary's tribute to the Old Gods. Meet Weirwood. A gray purple bark base with the red leaves descending down the yarn.

It's now available in the shop on Greater Restorative, Greater Poison and Useful Irradiant bases. Speaking of the shop, we are in the process of adding more to the store and catagorizing things for a more convienient shopping experience. Please be patient with us while we work out the bugs. However, you can choose to look through the whole Dispensary or navigate by yarn weight or color story!

By clicking on Song of Ice and Fire in the drop down 'The Dispensary' menu, you'll be taken to all the yarns and colors we have available in that particular color story. Soon we'll have the circus color story and the fairy tale one available the same way. In the meantime enjoy a picture of how Weirwood looks when knit in stockingnette.

Wee Weirwood monster and the skein he came from

What's New at The Dispensary

Besides the wee color story of Westeros and Ginevra's summer vaca there's a few other things brewing behind the scenes at The Wool Dispensary. First we have a new yarn!

Deadly Restorative in Wild Rumpus

In true oxymoron fashion Oose decided to call it Deadly Restorative. 'So wonderful it kills you dead,' he said. 400 yards of high twist, single ply fingering weight yarn, perfect for that pair of socks or lightweight shawl you've been wanting to make. There are a couple of colors in the shop now with more being photographed this weekend. And more yarn arriving and being dyed up this week. Plus if you are lucky enough to be in the midwest or Chicagoland area The Wool Dispensary will be vending Version Fest's Flea Market (Oose assures me there will be no fleas) and at Midwest Fiber and Folk Art Fair! So you can fondle all the lovelies for yourself.

On a personal note, Sam has added yet another piece of art to her skin. Being an avid fan of Tolkien since she was a young girl, she knows not everyone finds their path right off the bat. In her quest to be joyous and mischievious and to remember that even the long road will eventually get you there she got tattooed by Omar at Revolution Tattoo yesterday.

Ginevra's Summer Vacation

A hot summer day in Kansas City

Ginevra loves ice cream.. especially Jeni's!

Way back in grade school, the first writing assignment each fall was reliably: "What I did on my Summer Vacation." Even a small wool troll was forced to write such essays, though my adventures were of a limited sort.

While Sam and I will be busy prepping for a number of summer fiber festivals (more information to follow), I thought we could live vicariously through Ginevra, the drunken monkey. She's a knit creature Sam made in 2011 and is always getting into trouble and always up for finding new adventures! Check out some of her past escapades here.

Whether it's relaxing and knitting, dining out, driving 'cross country, or flying to an exotic local, Ginevra is up for the challenge! She would love to accompany you on your summer vacation. To host Ginevra all you have to do is post a picture of your favorite knitted friend in any Wool Dispensary base in this thread on Ravelry and let us know your date of travel and destination. Oose will work out the logistics of getting Ginevra where she needs to be.

If you don't have a knited buddy in Wool Dispensary yarn, now is your chance to cast one on! Check out this range of Danger Crafts patterns for inspiration! Ginevra will be travelling from June through early September so there is plenty of time to knit a friend for her.

We'll also be keeping an album of her exploits over on our Facebook page as well!

Everybody get ready to click the love button in the Ginevra's Summer Vacation thread! Each picture posted is automactically entered to win one of three Wool Dispensary Yarn Bags of AWESOME, stuffed chock full of yarn and patterns. The most creative pictures with the most 'loves' wins!

A Wee Color Story of Westeros

Winter is coming....well not actually, it's 76 and sunny outside here in the city of wind, but for those GoT (Game of Thrones) fans out there winter is coming to Westeros! The third season of the absolutely addictive series is underway and well, what troll doesn't love a good fantasy drama with kings & queens... dragons & giants, and more magic than you can shake a skein of yarn at? In celebration, I have tasked the color creator, to create a wee mini color story inspired by none other than The Song of Ice and Fire.

Fear not loyal subjects, I mean fans, Oose will offer no spoilers. ('Cause I've read all the books and so should you!) Just beautiful and inspired colorways. First out of the pots is a color inspired by my favorite houses' words...."Winter is coming."

Deep blue in hue with streaks of tan peaking out and occasional green undertones

The second color that emerged from the dying cauldron was fresh blossomed lavandar and screamed of a girl with the valor of knights and romance on her mind, Sansa Stark,  and is thus named for her.

Finally the third color will send chills down your spine as you picture the frightening blue eyes of a White Walker as he roams the dark woods north of the Wall.

So there you have the first three colors in our Game of Thrones mini story; Winter is Coming, Sansa Stark, and White Walker. They all will be available in our next update on May 1st in our newly revamped web store. They will be joined by three more colors. What GoT color ways would you like to see?
